Demographic Analysis

By looking at different demographic characteristics in our area we hope to have a better understanding of our community. With this understanding we will be able to modify our approach to better accommodate our fans. The population of Mobile has consistently grown over the past few years. Growing at a rate of 1.78% we can continue to expect more people to move into the area. The population has been predicted to grow by a rate of 2.31% by the year 2014. This means there will be more potential customers continuing to move into the area that we need to focus on. If we are able to gain the following of these new residents it means we can continue to expand our fan base.

The population in Mobile is split 47.26% male and 52.74% female. While this is not a huge difference we may want to reach out to the female population. We can do this by selling more merchandise geared towards females or we can run an ad campaign focused on our female fans. Because females represent the majority of the population in our city we have to make sure that we provide a female friendly atmosphere. This way we can try to reach out to as much of the population as possible.

When looking at the racial distribution of Mobile's population 49.92% of the members of the community are categorized as White. On the other hand, 45.60% of the population is classified as Black. This number has continued to fluctuate over the past few years. In a separate study it was discovered that 83.4% of NFL fans are White. This tells us that there is a greater opportunity for fans of the Madmen within the local population.

The median age of Mobile is 35.50. This is a good sign because the majority of NFL fans are between the ages of 35 and 44. This means that the city of Mobile has a prime population for fans that would follow the team and come to the games. Also, being the age of 35 means that the majority of the population in the area have a long life ahead of them in which they can continue to follow the franchise.

The city of Mobile's economy has begun to rebound from an economic downturn and is undergoing an economy upswing. The majority of workers in the area are classified as white collar workers. As far as the working population goes, 76.34% of the people are white collar workers. In the majority of cases this can mean that these people make more money on average than other workers. That being said, it gives these people an opportunity to spend more money if they want to. Meaning that this money could be used to buy tickets for the games or merchandise.

By looking at these five different factors I think it is obvious that Mobile, Alabama is a great place for the NFL to have a franchise. The team will continue to grow and prosper as long as it is a part of the community here.
